Legal Advisor ‘Safer Detention’ Training Programme

The Legal Advisor ‘Safer Detention’ Training Programme is designed to provide individuals who perform the role at police stations with the knowledge and understanding to enable them to discharge their duties in a safe and effective manner.

The two day course examines the relevant aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the PACE Codes of Practice and ’Authorised Professional Practice’ issued by the College of Policing. In particular, the course focuses on the individual’s rights & entitlements, fitness for detention and interview, conditions of detention, reviews, and extensions to periods of detention.
The programme’s learning outcomes are designed to reflect the requirements of all of the above legislation and guidance aligned with the role of the Legal Advisor.
At the conclusion of the course, delegates are provided with a competency portfolio to take with them into the workplace. The competency portfolio will provide evidence of their wider ability to safely perform the role of a Legal Advisor to relevant National Occupational Standards as determined by the Law Society.
