Independent Custody Visitor ‘Safer Detention’ Course

The Independent Custody Visitor (ICV) ‘Safer Detention’ Training Programme is designed to provide individuals who have ICV duties with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to discharge their role in a safe and effective manner.

The programme will also enable public or private sector organisations to ensure that their ICV’s receive appropriate ‘Safer Detention’ training.
The two day course examines relevant aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the PACE Codes of Practice and ’Authorised Professional Practice’ issued by the College of Policing.
The programme’s learning outcomes are designed to reflect the requirements of all of the above documents and can be enhanced to accommodate both organisational and local force policies and procedures.
At the conclusion of the course, delegates are provided with a competency portfolio to take with them into the workplace for completion with an assigned mentor. The competency portfolio will provide evidence of the delegate’s wider ability to safely perform the role of an ICV to the appropriate standard as determined by Police Commissioners.
