Healthcare Professional ‘Safer Detention’ Course

The Healthcare Professional ‘Safer Detention’ Training Programme is designed to provide individuals who perform this important role, with the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to discharge their responsibilities in a safe and effective manner.
The programme is intended to support the development of Healthcare Professionals employed by Local Authorities, or the Private Sector who have responsibility for both the medical care of detainees and any investigatory procedures.
The two day course examines all relevant aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the PACE Codes of Practice and ’Authorised Professional Practice’ issued by the College of Policing.
The programme’s learning outcomes are designed to reflect the requirements of the above legislation and guidance. The outcomes can also be enhanced to accommodate organisational or local force policies and procedures.
At the conclusion of the course, students are provided with a competency portfolio to take with them into the workplace for completion with an assigned mentor. The competency portfolio will provide evidence of the student’s wider ability to safely perform the role of a Healthcare Professional at hospitals and police custody suites.
