Drug and Alcohol Referral Worker ‘Safer Detention Course

The Drug and Alcohol Referral Worker (D&ARW) ‘Safer Detention’ Training Programme is designed to provide individuals who have D&ARW duties with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to discharge their role in a safe and effective manner.

The programme will enable local authorities and private sector organisations to ensure their D&ARW’s receive appropriate ‘Safer Detention’ training.
The two day course examines relevant aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the PACE Codes of Practice and ’Authorised Professional Practice’ issued by the College of Policing.
The programme’s learning outcomes are designed to reflect the requirements of all of the above legislation and guidance, and can be enhanced to accommodate both organisational and local force policies and procedures.
At the conclusion of the course, students are provided with a competency portfolio to take with them into the workplace for completion with an assigned mentor. The competency portfolio will provide evidence of the student’s wider ability to safely perform the role of a D&ARW  to relevant National Occupational Standards.
